IDSF Athletes Commission
Click here to view a letter from the Athlete Members of the newly formed, IDSF Athlete’s Commission. This is one more example of the democratic sporting principles in place at the IDSF to conduct DanceSport in an equitable manner.
The IDSF Athletes Commission held its first meeting in Barcelona, Spain, concurrently with that of the IDSF Presidium in January. The first exchange of views on several topics between athletes and Presidium members was marked by mutual understanding and the determination to improve the dialogue even further.
The Athletes Commission is made up of Alina Basiuk (RUS) and Timo Kulcak (GER). The two were elected by their peers at the recent IDSDF World DanceSport Championships Latin and Standard, and they have started to serve athletes in all disciplines and age grades already.
"Improved communication between us, the athletes, and IDSF tops our agenda at this point," said Timo Kulcak, after discussing some of the concerns brought up by their fellow competitors with Secretary General Marco Sietas and Sports Director Heinz Spaeker.
Following a suggestion made by Alina and Timo, the Presidium agreed to launch a dedicated section on this website for the new Commission to inform fellow athletes about the outcome of the first meeting. It will go up soon.
IDSF Adjudicators Congress
Each year, in various countries around the world, current and future adjudicators – professional and amateur – are able to attend a Congress to hear lectures on various aspects of DanceSport judging. Each attendee is registered at the Education Department of the IDSF, and their attendance is noted. Existing judges are required to attend one Congress every two years in order to be able to retain their IDSF license. For the past several years USA Dance has organized a Congress each year at the Embassy Ball in Irvine, California with the next one scheduled for September 2, 2010.
During this period we have been extremely grateful for the cooperation of the organizers of the Embassy Championships for the free use of their facilities.
