USA Dance Athletes Set to Entertain Spectators Atop Kit-Cat Float in 2012 Tournament of Rose Parade
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – USA Dance DanceSport athletes will entertain millions of parade watchers worldwide this January when the Kit-Cat® Clock float rolls down Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, Calif. during the 2012 Tournament of Roses® Parade.
Kit-Cat Clocks, one of the best known household decorating items, is celebrating its 80th anniversary as a company with a nostalgic float remembering the eight decades since its founding with a float themed, “Timeless Fun for Everyone.” USA Dance DanceSport athletes will perform to 50’s Swing tunes during the parade and then showcase many styles of dancing at the Post Parade event.
Aaron Altman, 12, and Rashell Khalfin, 11, will entertain a television audience of more than 50 million viewers worldwide and another three million spectators along the parade route. The young champion dancers have been dancing together for seven years, and will soon add the annual Rose Parade to their long list of appearances; including winning a junior competition on the hit show “Dancing With The Stars” in 2008.
"USA Dance and our local Los Angeles County Chapter, representing all ballroom and Latin dancers across America, are excited to be part of the Kit-Cat Clock float in the 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade. What better way to "swing in the new year" than "Dancing for America" in alliance with the California Clock Company, whose magnificent Kit-Cat float is a fun celebration and tribute to all that is American-made," stated Angela Prince, national spokesperson for USA Dance, the nonprofit ballroom dancing association, now with 174 active chapters throughout the U.S.
The Kit-Cat float will be an attention-getting entry alive with activity. At the center of the 55 ft. long parade entry will be a 24 ft. high black and white Kit-Cat, rolling its eyes, swinging its tail and wearing a contagious smile. In addition to the USA Dancers, dancing to tunes from a 50”s jukebox, eight skateboarders will zip on and off the float, and eight riders from eight to 80 years old, representing the children, parents, grandparents and great grandparents who have owned and loved a Kit-Cat Clock during the eight decades since the founding of the California Clock Company in 1932. Another eight USA Dancers will perform alongside the float.
“We are proud to be a part of American nostalgia, and we thought having dancers on the float would be a fun way to entertain spectators and show the 50’s, one of the most important decades Kit-Cat has been a part of,” said Woody Young, CEO, the California Clock Company, which manufactures Kit-Cat Clocks. “Classic tunes like ‘Rock around the Clock’ will bring the float to life and show what we are celebrating at Kit-Cat.”
