UNITED STATES OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE (USOPC) UPDATE

USA Dance, Inc. is currently engaged in two exciting USOPC initiatives.

USA Dance, Inc. has joined forces with Paralympian, Cheryl Angelelli, to begin the journey toward admitting ParaDanceSport (wheelchair ballroom dance) to the Paralympic Games. Senior VP, Greg Warner, is spearheading this this initiative along with Ms. Angelelli and the support a very talented ParaDanceSport Committee. The committee completed a five-year strategic plan to comply with USOPC guidelines and is currently drafting the ParaDanceSport syllabus of figures. We look forward to ParaDanceSport becoming a program sport under the umbrella of USA Dance. We are excited about this initiative and the potential it presents for advancing our mission.

The USA Dance Breakin’ Committee is in the process of drafting the official Breakin’ Rulebook, which will guidelines for virtual competitions. We are excitedly awaiting the USOPC’s December announcement as to whether or not Breakin’ will be included in the 2024 Paris games. In the meantime, coaching, training, equipment, travel and other expenses associated with operating a Team USA are costly. While the USOPC recognizes USA Dance as the National Governing Body for Dance, we are delighted to partner with USA Breakin’, a sport-specific non-profit that is uniquely qualified to network within the Breakin’ community on behalf of these athletes. USA Breakin’ has undertaken to raise and collect the funds necessary to support their activities for which we are extremely grateful. Look for another update on Breakin’ in December!
